AI answer engines
How Tuurbo AI tracks visits coming from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overview.
Overview
People increasingly find websites through AI answer engines and chat assistants, not just traditional search results. Tuurbo AI tracks and reports on the sessions your site receives from these AI sources, alongside your traditional traffic, so you can see how visible your content is inside AI-generated answers.
What you can do
- See, at a glance in your Dashboard, how many sessions came from each AI source.
- Compare AI-driven traffic against your traditional organic search traffic over the same period.
- Use this visibility as an input for your SEO & GEO/AEO automations, which help optimize your content so it is more likely to be picked up and cited by these engines.
Which AI sources are tracked
Tuurbo shows a dedicated set of tiles on the Dashboard, one for each recognized AI source:
| Source | What it represents |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Sessions arriving from links shared or generated within ChatGPT conversations. |
| Perplexity | Sessions arriving from the Perplexity AI answer engine. |
| Gemini | Sessions arriving from Google's Gemini assistant. |
| Claude | Sessions arriving from Anthropic's Claude assistant. |
| Google AI Overview | Sessions arriving from the AI-generated summary shown at the top of some Google search results. |
Each tile shows the number of sessions attributed to that source for your selected date range.
Step-by-step: reviewing your AI-driven traffic
- Open the Dashboard.
- Locate the section showing sessions from LLM/AI sources (near the traffic KPIs).
- Use the date range selector (last 7, 30 or 90 days, last year, or a custom range) to change the period.
- Compare the numbers over time to see whether your visibility in AI answers is growing.
- If you want to actively improve this visibility, open SEO & GEO/AEO automations to review and approve content optimizations aimed at these engines.
Requirements
- Google Search Console and Google Analytics should be connected for the fullest picture of your traffic, since AI-source sessions are shown alongside the metrics that come from these integrations.
- No AI engine account or subscription is required on your side; Tuurbo detects and attributes this traffic automatically once your analytics are connected.
Tips
- AI-driven traffic tends to be smaller in volume than search traffic today but is growing quickly; check it periodically rather than expecting large numbers immediately.
- Content that is clear, well-structured and directly answers common questions tends to perform better in AI-generated answers; the SEO & GEO/AEO automations are designed to help with exactly this.
Limits
- Attribution of AI-driven sessions depends on how each AI platform passes referral information, which is outside Tuurbo's control; some sessions from AI tools may not be distinguishable from regular direct or organic traffic.
- These tiles are a visibility report and do not consume AI credits to display.
Common problems
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| All AI source tiles show zero | Confirm Google Analytics is connected and that your date range includes recent traffic. |
| Numbers seem lower than expected | Some AI referral traffic may be counted as regular direct traffic if the source did not pass tracking information; this is a known limitation across the industry, not specific to Tuurbo. |
